Scott Wilson

It is with great sadness that i have to report the loss of a very dear friend, Scott Wilson.

Scott was one of my first real friends here in California. Amusing to a fault, always an encouraging word, but also the first to kick my behind should the need arise. He was an absolute pleasure to do business with as any business dealings were done with an integrity which is seldom found now adays.

Loving father to Alex, who is a chip of the old block. Alex has become, like his father, an incredible horseman, even for his young age. Polite, hard working, honest,he is a true reflection of what his father was, and Scott was so proud, rightfully so. Scott was so pleased when Alex decided to make his career in horses.

He was also like a Dad to all of his clients, and unusually in this business, his clients stayed for years, some decades, that alone speaks volumes. Unselfish, he gave his all, wanting everyone to have fun at the shows, but, also providing his clients with more than their share of blue ribbons

He has been taken from us way too soon.

My prayers are with Alex and his family at this sad, sad time.

Helen.

  Congratulations:
LA National
Super week in Burbank for all Outwoods Farm horses;

Caballo started off the week with a super 5th in the $25,000 Grand Prix behind Rich Fellows, Will Simpson, Rich again, Spooner then Caballo. Mr Whoopy and Duncan had an unlucky rail to leave them 12th, what a great end to his 7 year old year.

Anakin (see the sales page) had a couple of good placings in the 1.10/1.15 division, Katie the same. Cardano and Simone great in the lows which were unbelievably competitive. Double Trouble had a good placing again with Simone in the Modified Classic, watched closely by her 'fan club'.

I had the pleasure of riding His Horse at his first horse show back. This good old boy (14) was double clear in his first class back, then 5th in the 1.30 class. Thanks to Nancy Markwell for allowing him  to come to the show with us. He is for sale and will be on the sales page soon.

Sacremento International
Caballo winner of the 4 bar competition. Jumping 6'6" (2m) What a great class, second was Peter Brakewell and Lucas, whom i rode when he first arrived from Mexico, and Patrick Seaton and Sir Kannon, i rode this horse last year to second place in the Gamblers Choice.

Next the Thursday Grand Prix:
One point one seconds separated the first five horses. A win for Will Simpson, JP and Guy were joint second, Spooner 4th and Caballo 5th. Mr Whoopy and Duncan a very respectable 8th with a great clear round on this young star.
Ride and Drive;
Lancer Farms Condor was fantastic, my driving, not so good!!! Very happy with 6th place here.
World Cup
Congratulations to Rich Fellows and Flexible. Caballo clear till having 2 of the last 3 down, a bit of a communication problem at a skinny but a great round apart from that.

Sunday Classic
What a strange class....... Another great win for Duncan and Mr Whoopy yet again, 5 in the jump off, few alterations on the time allowed but Whoopy stepped up to the plate and did his thing to give Outwoods Farm another Blue Sash and Sacremento Cooler....

Ian was a little star, and is riding more like his Dad every time out. A 2nd in the Spruce Meadows Qualifier and after having a great go in the Sunday Ch Classic finished 8th all on Simone Coxes' Fortuna. Way to go Ian.

Extra mention to Judith and Leslie who, despite Judith not being able to train for the previous couple of months, and Leslie on two catch rides, did us proud.
Well done ladies, keep up the good work.

Sacremento Welcome Week

First and foremost;
Mr Whoopy
The 7 year old proved his worth again with a fantastic win in the $25,000 Grand Prix. Well done Duncan and our great owners Simone and Tench Coxe.

Lancer Farms Condor;
 4th Regular Working Hunter, 5th Regular Working Hunter, 4th $10,000 Hunter Derby (Helen McNaught), 3rd AA Classic (Leslie Nelson) 8th Sacremento Grand Prix (HMcN). This AMAZING HORSE is still for sale and/lease, he will be collected and gelded in the next few weeks. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? HE'S PROVED HIMSELF IN EVERY DISCIPLINE............
Caballo;
 Winner 1.30, 2nd 1.40 and 12th Sacremento Grand Prix.

PREMONITION:
our lovely lady, under the very talented Leslie Nelson was placed 4th, 3rd and 3rd Modified Classic. First outing for these two, what a great team. "Lucy" is also for sale/lease.

                                                                    Last but not least;

 WALK THE LINE  and JUDITH CHAPMAN.
Reserve champion Modified Jumpers, 4th twice modified jumpers and placed Modified Classic, an exciting end to a great year for these two.

Del Mar International
One of my favorite shows,
what a fantastic job Dale Harvey always does. The new roof: an added bonus to an already super arena.
Mr Whoopy was his usual flamboyant self, with a great round for him in the Thursday Grand Prix. He learns with every trip. Good placing in the 1.45 class on Friday gave him a super experience under the careful management of Duncan.
Lancer Farms Condor, showed, yet again how versatile he is. Good placing with Duncan in the 1.45 class, a fantastic quick round with Helen in the ride and drive (unfortunately my driving was a little suspect!!) THEN, what a good boy with our new client Leslie Nelson in the Masters and the Ch/AA Classic, 3rd and 4th respectively. Great riding by Leslie, we expect nothing less.
Caballo was amazing. One down, in the combination early on in the World Cup left us with a four fault round to finish 11th. Four clears, great win for Rich Fellows, followed by the incredibly talented John Pearce and Harley Brown, consistent as always.

Congrats to Guy Thomas on Mr Bubbles (Tin Tin Stella) for his ride and drive win. A few riders, who shall remain nameless needed a gps!

Great two weeks down 'South' The Oaks and LAEC.

OAKS,
Caballo
good clear and 11th place in the $25,000 Grand Prix. Well done JP 1st and 2nd.
World cup was a fantastic win for my good friend Becky Smith, awesome, Caballo was 4th with a late rail.
Mr Whoopy excelled in the 1.45 division, and just had a 'green' moment in his second indoor Grand Prix for 8 faults.
Anakin, our lovely 7yr old(see sales page) was placed every day and is proving to be a diamond in the rough.

LAEC,
One of my favorite indoor venues saw mixed fortunes. A great 6th placing in the Thursday Grand Prix set Caballo up nicely for the World Cup.
A late 4 faults in the last combination saw us placed 13th overall in a very tough class. Well done Ashley Bond and Cadett for her win there.
Fantastic to see my old student Stephanie Saperstein being placed with 4 faults in the jump off in one of her first World Cups, always gutsy, she has certainly not lost any of her edge after moving onto the 'big time'.

MY GOOD FRIEND HARLEY BROWN cannot be stopped. Consistant as always in the World Cups so far, he keeps cleaning up in the 1.40 and Futures division on Travel, a horse bought from me last year. Keep up the good work, and i just have to say.................Told you so!!!!!!

Helen McNaught, Ocean Cat sail to win $10,000 Woodside Jumper Classic

Special to the Horsetrader - July 16th, 2009 IssueSheri Scott Photography

Helen McNaught and Ocean Cat win the $10,000 Woodside Jumper Classic.

WOODSIDE — Helen McNaught and Ocean Cat, owned by Doug and Julie White, sailed to the front of the $10,000 Woodside Jumper Classic held during the Woodside Circuit Opener from June 17-21. Seven horses posted clear rounds over designer Danny Foster’s course, and McNaught blazed around the jump-off in a time of 42.556 seconds, more than two seconds ahead of second-place finisher Macella O’Neill and Incandescent, owned by Melanie Rapp, owner.

“She is careful and wants to jump clean,” McNaught said of Ocean Cat, a dark-brown 10-year-old mare. Julie White brought the mare up through the jumper ranks, and McNaught recently took over the reins. “She wants to go and jump,” added McNaught. “She always has the fastest first round, and then in the jump-off I just turn tighter.”

McNaught is new to Northern California, and the British native really likes her new home. “This area reminds me of home and the weather is great. Woodside is quiet and filled with horse people, and I love the area shops. I’ve wanted to come up here for years and there is more competition than I expected. The Horse Park at Woodside is lovely and the big fields give you lots of riding area. What is there not to like?”

Merissa and Simone on a super Woodside. High placings in every class..... Your hard work is paying off. Not to mention the fabulous horses Cardano, Double Trouble and Jay's Way. Keep up the good work.

ShowPark

Mr Whoopy,
what a star. His first big indoor grand prix just the one rail. 7 years old, an incredible future this horse has in front of him.
Caballo his usual wonderful self.
Double Trouble jumping like a young horse, placings in most classes.
Walk the Line and Judith Chapman incredible, great ride on a great horse. Well done you.

PEBBLE BEACH:

Week One
Mr Whoopy, showing his true potential by placing 2nd in Sundays Grand Prix. Lancer Farms Condor had a fast four in the JO for a respectable 6th.
Congratulations to Merissa Yokum for her placing in the Derby, awesome.

Week Two
Lancer Farms Condor 3rd in the GP, Caballo 5th, Mr Whoopy 11th (first to go slow four in first round) finished off a great week at Pebble.
The footing was great the people super accommodating, thanks to all the ring crew and staff that make these shows possible.
A big congratulations to Duncans' son Ian, who is certainly following in his fathers footsteps. Not only was Ian consistently placed at Spruce Meadows,aboard Simone Coxes' Fortuna, he was also a force to be rekoned with at Pebble. A star of the future.

WHAT A THREE WEEKS IT'S BEEN

WEEK ONE:

Our own Caballo wins the Welcome Stakes, also placed were: Dondero, Ocean Cat, Mr Whoopy and Lancer Farms Condor.
Double Trouble in her very first outing with Simone Coxe wins and is placed in her division. Cardano won his Classic with Simone on board.
Then Grand Prix day, Ocean Cat, owned by Doug and Julie White set an unbeatable pace to win, our pupil, Callie Layland a very respectable 4th with Tazmin Bay, Mr Whoopy and Duncan 5th, Caballo and Dondero (time fault first round), 6th and 7th.

WEEK TWO:
Once again a great Welcome Stakes, Ocean Cat a very speedy 1st place, also placed Mr Whoopy and Caballo.
Double Trouble once again awesome. Cardano his usual reliable self. Then the Grand Prix.
Eight clear, including Mr Whoopy, Caballo, Lancer Farms Condor. Duncan set an incredible time to take the blue ribbon, Condor just too slow in 2nd, Caballo fastest of all but a cheap rail put him back to 6th.

WEEK THREE
Simone Coxe for some great results with our own Double Trouble and Cardano. Caballo came close to repeating his Welcome Stakes win but a slip on the final turn just left us too slow by a fraction.
Grand Prix saw Ocean Cat, Doug and Julie Whites' lovely mare, clear, whilst Caballo had an unluck fault at the liverpool. An uncharactaristic stop at the 1st jump in the JO left Ocean Cat a very respectable 3rd.

Mr Whoopy: At 7 years old, the winner of the Woodside Preview grand prix. Congratulations to Duncan who rode to a very speedy victory, but also to his owners, Mr & Mrs T Coxe.
Whoopy was also the winner in the 7/8 year old division at both the Preview and the Classic.

Simone Coxe with both Camsa and Cardano winners in their divisions at the recent Woodside horse show.

Also Duncan,  with Lancer Farms Condor (see our sales page) winning 3 classes.
Again Duncan, with our own Dondero, was in the winners enclosure. He is also one of our sales/lease horses.

Caballo
also was the winner in his division, as well as placing 3rd behind Mr Whoopy in the Grand Prix.
